DERMAL FILLERS WITH HYALURONIC ACID
As the skin ages, supportive collagen and other vital nutrients in the dermis, the "living skin", begin to break down. The skin loses resilience and elasticity and its tone and texture do not appear as vibrant as in more youthful skin. Dermal Fillers with Hyaluronic Acid play an essential role in rejuvenating the appearance of aging skin especially for wrinkles and folds in the areas around the nose and mouth. Our careful, customized approach, including helping set realistic aesthetic expectations, allows us to achieve precise results for each patient.
How do Dermal Fillers work?
Hyaluronic Acid is found in healthy skin, so its reformulated, synthetic model is a compatible, versatile and natural choice for correcting signs of aging. Acting like a "moisture magnet," Hyaluronic Acid attracts and holds moisture within the skin to soften lines and wrinkles and to impart a more supple tone. When injected, Hyaluronic Acid fills in the gaps and cushions facial structures and tissues within the aging dermis, so skin's contours are revitalized wherever the injections are placed.
What are the types of Dermal Fillers?
At Karlene Dermatology, we use an effective range of leading-edge dermal fillers, including Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Perlane®.
The Juvéderm family of fillers (Juvéderm® Ultra, Juvéderm® Ultra Plus, Juvéderm® XC, Juvéderm® Ultra XC, Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC) is a versatile complement that is widely used to improve the appearance of mild to moderate lines and folds around the nose and mouth. These fillers are known for their smooth-gel consistency which flows easily into the soft tissue of the dermis, adding volume and "cushion", and delivering key nutrients and moisture. The Hyaluronic Acid gel holds up well over time, giving patients longer-lasting results, often up to one year with a single application.
The Restylane® family of fillers (Restylane®, Perlane®, Restylane®-L, Perlane®-L) is another good choice for minimizing the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds that develop around the nose and mouth. The clear Hyaluronic Acid gel formula is compatible with the body's own "volumizers" so it improves skin's resilience in a natural-looking way. In addition, Restylane® is the only filler to receive FDA approval for augmenting the lip area.
Perlane® is used more often for addressing lines that benefit from deeper injections.
How will you choose the right Dermal Filler?
During your consultation, we'll do a careful examination of the facial areas that concern you most. We'll discuss in depth not only the right filler for your condition, but the right treatment plan to follow over time in reaching your appearance goals. The plan we create together may include the use of more than one type of filler, depending on the depth and location of the furrows we're trying to improve.
What improvements can you expect to see after using a Dermal Filler?
Dermal Fillers temporarily add volume to aging skin, smoothing out moderate to severe wrinkles and folds so they begin to be less noticeable after the first application. Results may last between 9 months to one year.
How are Dermal Fillers applied?
Dermal Fillers are injected into facial tissue with a fine needle which may cause some discomfort. Some fillers, such as Juvéderm® XC, Restylane®-L, and Perlane®-L have been formulated with Lidocaine, a local anesthetic, which improves comfort during the treatment.
Is using a Dermal Filler a healthy choice for you?
Your practitioner will discuss the specific characteristics that make you a healthy candidate for using Dermal Fillers with Hyaluronic Acid. You should discuss your medical history thoroughly, including any history of allergies or bleeding disorders, with your practitioner before undertaking this kind of treatment.
Are there side effects after using Dermal Fillers?
There is a risk of infection with all skin-injection procedures. Other mild side effects are usually temporary (resolving in 7 days or less) injection-site reactions such as:
redness, pain or tenderness
firmness
swelling
lumps/bumps
bruising, itching, discoloration
You should discuss these possible side effects and any additional concerns you might have with your practitioner before undertaking any procedure.
